PSALM 3: I AM SECURE, GOD WATCHES OVER ME

The intro to this Psalm records the context of this Psalm. Can you imagine the terrible anguish, pain and failure that David must have felt as he was persecuted by his own son, Absalom. (Read 2 Sam 15-17 for the history). Out of the depth of this relational affliction David calls to God, bringing his case before Him. In the loneliness, in the midst of his enemies (and the enemy here is his son), David’s focus is on God – His shield, His glory, the One who lifts his head. In the midst of his inner and outer turmoil, David finds his security, his peace, his safety in God’s Presence. I want to say with him “I lay down and slept. I woke up in safety for the LORD was watching over me. I am not afraid of ……..who/what surrounds me.” When trouble, relational problems seems overwhelming, where do you run? Who do you cry out to? Who is your functional saviour? Only One can save, Only One can rescue, only One can bring victory – Only God! May God’s blessing rest on you! May the Lord clothe you with blessing (The Message) – Gaby Botha
